Port advance in FA Amateur Cup

Ellesmere Port’s first team advanced to the next round of the FA Amateur Cup on Saturday, as they came from behind to defeat a spirited Shaftesbury YC 3-2.

1-0 down from the first half, a tactical switch at the back allowed Port to quickly race into a 2-1 lead, before being pegged back through a thunderbolt strike. The game wasn’t level for long, as a 3-2 lead was established much against the complaints of the Shaftesbury defenders who appealed, in vain, for offside.

Port’s first competitive win of the season should prove a springboard for further success as the games-in-hand in the league will come thick and fast as the season progresses.
